At Sellwood Medical Clinic, we want billing to be as clear and straightforward as possible. Below is some helpful information to guide you through common billing questions.
Well Visits & Office Visits
Well visits are generally covered by insurance as preventative care. However, referrals, orders, medications, additional testing, or any non-preventative care addressed during a well visit may not fall under preventative coverage and may instead be classified as diagnostic care. Diagnostic care typically requires a separate office visit.
If diagnostic care is needed during your well visit, an office visit charge may be added to the well visit. This allows us to take care of everything in one appointment, rather than asking you to schedule and return for a second visit. You can view this itemized breakdown on the Billing tab of your patient portal.
Patient Responsibilities
To help avoid unexpected charges, patients are responsible for knowing the following:
- Whether your insurance is in-network with our clinic.
- Which lab is in-network with your insurance.
- Which pharmacy is in-network with your insurance.
- Whether your insurance requires a full year between well visits, or allows one per calendar year.
Please note: lab work is billed directly by the performing laboratory. Sellwood Medical Clinic does not have access to lab billing and is unable to answer questions regarding lab charges.
Vaccines
Sellwood Medical Clinic partners with Vaxcare for all commercial vaccines. Vaxcare supplies the vaccines and bills all in-network insurance plans directly. If you receive correspondence from Vaxcare requesting insurance information, please respond to them directly. Please only contact SMC if your vaccine claim has processed as out-of-network.
Payment Policies
Copays are due at the time of service.
Additional fees may be applied if a past-due balance is sent to an outside collections agency.
Provider time exceeding 5 minutes outside of a scheduled appointment may incur additional fees.
